At the 60th Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, held on May 8, 2025, at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, Brooks & Dunn were honored with the Duo of the Year award. This marked their first win in this category in 15 years, bringing their total ACM Awards count to 31, including a record 17 wins for Duo of the Year.
The award was presented by Kristian Bush of Sugarland, who appeared solo due to his bandmate Jennifer Nettles falling ill that morning. Bush addressed her absence, stating, “Sadly, she got sick this morning, proving that when it comes to duos, it really does take two,” and wished her a speedy recovery.
During their acceptance speech, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn expressed heartfelt gratitude to their fans, acknowledging the unwavering support they’ve received over the years. They humorously remarked, “Thanks for paying our rent for the past 30 years,” highlighting the enduring connection they’ve maintained with their audience.
Earlier in the evening, the duo delivered a memorable performance of their classic hit “Red Dirt Road” alongside Cody Johnson, captivating the audience and showcasing their enduring musical prowess.
